It doesn’t rain, it pours. Yes, I’ve written a second piece about the 10th anniversary of the earthquakes. The first was up on Slate, and gave a bit of a broader view of the decade for an international audience. The second is for Australasian literary magazine Overland. I’ve written for them before, including a piece called “Christchurchland”. This one is called Christchurchland II: Fury Road, and dives straight in to the big failures of the rebuild, as I see them. Think of the two as a right jab followed by a left hook.
As an Australian news outlet, Overland have been caught up in the insane Facebook ban on news, so they haven’t been able to share it as widely via that platform. But I can share it via this, so hopefully you’ll be able to click through and read it (if you want, you don’t have to.)
